This is not a measurement of history. Two lines run across the chart: the promise — the age's dominant worldview or professed ideal — and the practice — the more binding of its political and economic order, the reality people actually lived under. The band between them is the gap between what humanity professed and what it enacted. The Axial Age and the Enlightenment both professed worldviews near 400 (350–400) while their orders lagged roughly 150 points behind; the deepest floors — the Neolithic, the early river empires — sat lower but nearly closed the gap, brutal yet not hypocritical. Every input is visible when you click an era, so you can argue with the calibrations rather than take them on faith. Neither line is a smooth ascent: both climb, collapse, and climb again. Technological progress is not consciousness progress.
